Are you studying at City College or the UEA? Have you decided to up sticks and find new accommodation, perhaps with a new group of friends for the 2018-2019 period? If so then you might be thinking about the best way to go about student moves in Norwich. We have put together our best tips for getting that new shared house and some basic advice on how to smooth over the living experience.

Look Early

If you want to move in together with people, it’s always best to start looking early. Equally if you decide in your first year that you want to move out of halls in the 2nd or 3rd term then this can be the ideal time to find a place together as you can generally avoid the summer rush. A greater variety of properties and locations should be available and it means that you can move out of communal accommodation into a more settled pace of life.

One Day is Better

Than three weeks. Moving into a new house, especially when there are a number of people involved can be a very drawn out process. Boxes might get left in the hallway and it can be hard to move things in and around when other people are trying to cook or study. For this reason we think it’s always best to co-ordinate the troops and all move in together. This way you can check that you have the front room organised how you want…and make communal choices that makes everyone happy.

Share the Love

It’s easier to have a set of pots, pans and plates for the house rather than overloading your kitchen with cooking utensils and kitchenware from everyone. Rather than bringing stuff from home, why not consider all chipping in and buying some communal equipment that you can share and as long as you stay on top of the washing up and cleaning then it frees up more storage space for people to keep their food and drink.

Put it On a Schedule

Student life can be busy. Studying for exams and having to sit up late to compete assignments can mean that housework and cleaning responsibilities move to the bottom of the list. Create a rota or a weekly schedule that reminds everybody of their tasks and duties and that way you create a little accountability in the house and ensure that your jobs get done. After all, clear as you go only works when everyone has time, with an equal share of the work you can keep your house clean and tidy.
