A political and social movement led to these different states and kingdoms being unified to become ‘Italy’. The unification of Italy is also known as the ‘Risorgimento’.
Mainland Europe’s only active volcanoes are in Italy. Mount Vesuvius, Mount Etna and Stromboli are the three of Italy’s volcanoes that have erupted within the past 100 years.
