Moving Pets
In addition to the documents required to move personal effects to Hungary, a veterinary certificate will also be required to import a pet into Hungary.
It is recommended to contact a pet moving specialist for information on what pets can be imported to Hungary and what documents would be required.
Prohibitions and Restrictions:
It is prohibited to import food & alcohol to Hungary as part of a move of personal & household effects
Importing plants do you need a Phytosanitary certificate.
A Phytosanitary certificate would be required, however, including plants with a movement of personal & household goods is not recommended as it will almost certainly lead to delays in customs clearance and potentially large additional costs
General information about the country and what it is known for
The inventor of the Rubik’s cube is Hungarian. Ernő Rubik invented the Rubik’s cube in 1974, whilst he was a professor of architecture at the Budapest College of Applied Arts. The Rubik’s is one of the, if not the world’s best- selling puzzle games. It is difficult to give an exact figure, but it has estimated that over 400 million Rubik’s cubes have been sold worldwide.
Tokaj, a small town in North Eastern Hungary is one of the world’s first official wine regions. In 1737, the then King of Hungary, made a royal decree that Tokaj would become the countries national wine area. This happened over 100 years before Bordeaux in France was anointed an official wine region. Wine has been historically produced in Tokaj and vines growing in the area have been traced as far back as about 13 million years ago. King Louis XIV of France is said to have once declared a Tokaji tipple to be the “wine of kings, king of wines”.
First becoming operational in 1896, the Budapest metro (or the Budapesti metró as it is known in Hungarian) is the second oldest underground rail system in Europe, just a few years younger than the London Underground. The opening of the line fell in place with the millennium celebration marking 1000 years of the Hungarian conquest of the Carpathian Basin.
