Importing Personal Effects

Shipper must supply a copy of the photo page of their passport.

Non-New Zealand or Australian passport holders also need to provide a current NZ residence permit or work visa.

Importing Vehicles

In addition to supplying the same documents required to ship personal effects, the shipper of a car into New Zealand will also need to provide:

  • Original registration/ownership document
  • A purchase invoice
  • Original compliance certificate from vehicle manufacturer (may not be required)

Moving Pets

The below documents are required to import a pet into New Zealand:

  • Health Certificate
  • Import permit

There are restrictions as on what breeds/types of animals will be permitted entry into New Zealand and animals could be subject to strict quarantine regulations.

Prohibitions and Restrictions:

It is not advisable to include any foodstuffs, consumables or drinks in a shipment from the UK to New Zealand. It is either prohibited or severely restricted.

Any outdoor items or other effects that potentially come in contact with the outdoors, could be subject to a quarantine inspection. New Zealand customs do not want elements such as dirt, dust or rust from other countries to come into their country. If, upon inspection, any items are not deemed to be clean enough or acceptable to New Zealand customs, they will be cleaned or in a worse- case scenario destroyed. The shipper will be charged for the inspection and any cleaning or destruction.

Importing plants do you need a Phytosanitary certificate.

It is not recommended shipping plants from the UK to New Zealand with other personal effects. Most plants and plant products are prohibited. Any that may be allowed will be subject to very strict regulations. More information can be found at www.mpi.govt.nz

New Zealand was the first country to approve women having the right to vote, in 1893. This was quite some time before most other countries around the globe gave women the right to vote. In the UK, women were not allowed to vote until 1918 (over 30s only, it wasn’t changed to over 18s until 1928.) in the USA, women were first permitted to vote in 1920.
